Stearns receives a 2014 Robert D. Lemon Social Justice Award from the Center for for Social Justice
Ami Stearns, a PhD student, received the 2014 Robert D. Lemon Social Justice Graduate Instructor Award from the OU Center for Social Justice. Ami received the award for her work helping female prisoners and their children. She founded a program called “Cards for Kids,” which gives greeting cards to children of incarcerated parents so the children can mail those cards to their parents. She also volunteers as a videographer for the Messages Project, a program that films prisoners reading stories to their children and then delivers that book and the DVD to the children. Ami is graduating in May, and in August she will join the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette as an assistant professor.
